“I was born and raised here in Houston and I wanted to do what I can to help those in need,” said Stewart. “People were really surprised to see Miss USA passing out meals. It was such an honor to serve them and see their smiles.”

Crystle’s day started with a tour of the Red Cross Disaster Relief Operations Center at the Greater Houston American Red Cross chapter. Here she thanked volunteers from across the country for giving their time to help others. Chapter Executive Davis Henderson welcomed Miss USA and thanked her for helping to bring awareness to the ongoing relief work the Red Cross is doing along the Gulf Coast.

Following her tour of the operations center, Crystle rode on an Emergency Response Vehicle to deliver meals to residents still without power. Her day concluded with greeting residents of the Auchon Red Cross shelter.

Over 6,000 people remain in Red Cross shelters, and thousands of people are still without power in the area. "I can tell you we won't be measuring this operation in weeks," said Joe Becker, senior vice president of disaster services for the Red Cross. "We will be measuring this operation in months."
