Opportunities
Chapter Volunteers
All international volunteer opportunities are arranged through your local chapter — the American Red Cross national headquarters is unable to match volunteers with international assignments. Use our Chapter Locator on the left menu to find the chapter closest to you. For more information on volunteer opportunities, please visit Volunteer Services.
Overseas Delegates
American Red Cross international field staff, also called delegates, serve on foreign assignments around the world. The American Red Cross usually requires delegates to have high-level skills that meet specific needs and who can help during natural disasters and armed conflict. People with experience in water and sanitation engineering, capacity building, finance and accounting, disaster relief and logistics, food programming and commodity management, and international public health are frequently recruited.
Recruitment for American Red Cross international delegates is a continuous process. Check out currently open international delegate positions on our Job Opportunity Bulletin. To find out more about American Red Cross job opportunities in foreign countries write to: American Red Cross International Field Personnel, 2025 E. Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006.
International Disaster Response
The American Red Cross remains ready to respond to disasters that occur overseas, helping the survivors of war, upheaval and natural disasters around the world. In these times of acute need, the American Red Cross mobilizes assistance to those who have lost their homes and are without food to eat and clean water to drink. If you are interested in being a part of the International Disaster Response (IDR) roster please read about our training requirements [PDF]. IDR roster members are deployed worldwide in a variety of capacities alongside local Red Cross or Red Crescent societies, the Federation and ICRC. Members of this roster must have technical skills, Red Cross/Red Crescent knowledge and disaster relief experience that often begins by volunteering at a local Red Cross chapter.
